Community

Hello again, today I will write about community and what it means to me and as I am gathering many others as well.  Sports and all that come along with it is huge in St. Albert, the Farmers Market is huge, a trip to Hole’s is a busy event, an evening at the Arden is a busy event, the Fireworks draw a crowd as do Rockin August nights and the Rainmaker-all these have one thing in common- it’s community spending time together. Community is the life breath of St. Albert and I am of the belief that there can never be too many choices for ways to spend time with your friends and neighbors. I am a huge fan of the block party program. I would like to more events for seniors and teens as well. These are two groups that often get forgotten and they are our future and our experience. Rightfully I would like to see programs where teens and seniors connect. My grandpa, at 92 now has a memory of a boat ride with my teens a few weeks ago, and a fond memory I saw in his eyes. Seniors sometimes need a way around and teens never stop moving. Anything that helps community connect, I back 100% percent.

I also think that especially when money is tight it is great to be able to enjoy our own home town activities. I think many people feel they have to travel to have fun and the grass is always greener somewhere else. Lots of people come from out of town to enjoy what we have in our own back yard. I used to get stuck in a rut and always did the same things over and over. I love it when I can do something in my home community and don’t have to travel or pay for accomodations. I still frequent Edmonton for events but more and more I find my entertainment right here at home. I feel that living in St. Albert is the best of both worlds. We have all that a big city can offer a stones throw away but we still have the unique home town flavor of St. Albert. When I have guests to entertain I don’t have to fight traffic and parking to go to the city, everything I need is right here.
